FIVE SELF DEFENSE MOVES EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

    BY ROBERT JANSEN

DO YOU EVER FEEL ANGRY WHEN YOU READ THE LATEST HEADLINES?

You are not alone, I speak with a lot of people that feel afraid when being out and about alone after dark, and its not just women that feel they may be attacked.

Close Protection Specialist and Trainer Robert Jansen, who specializes in training men and women in self protection believes that everyone should have the confidence and competence to defend themselves if needed.

Self protection, so often called self defense, is not about winning a fight and getting a trophy or medal. It's about doing whatever is necessary to get away when someone is attacking you or a loved one.

Self protection is not all about fighting to get away; your body language and awareness can prevent or help you avoid many would be attacks.

When the attack gets physical you only have a limited amount of time to effectively defend yourself before the attacker can gain total control over you.

You can not expect to deal with your attacker in a rational way, you have to be willing to do everything you can to get away, including fighting back.

Aim for the areas of the human body that are vulnerable no matter size or gender to cause enough discomfort or damage to your attacker, so you can get away.

Striking the Eyes, Neck (Throat), and Knees have the potential to cause immediate discomfort or damage so you can get away. -Yes there are other areas, Ears, Nose, Groin, and Legs. However, those areas have mixed results at best, depending on the individuals.....

Palm heel strike, aka Open Hand Strike:

Covers a larger area than a fist punch with

less risk of injury to your hand.

You can also push your fingers into

your attacker's eyes, to at least temporarily

cause disorientation so you can get away.

Kick to the Knee, effective even with larger

attackers and usually more effective than a

groin kick says Robert, as a groin kick affects

males differently. A stomp to the knee makes

it difficult if not impossible for anyone

to run after you.

360* Defense

Grabs

Would you be able to defend yourself and your loved ones if someone were to physically attack you?

The moves are simple and taught in a repetitive way in order to change your muscle memory - to really drill the moves into a person and make them become second nature you have to keep practising, but it doesn’t take years and years.

Avoid, prevent, de-escalate, defend, fight (if necessary), then run.

DO YOU ASK YOURSELF "WHAT WOULD I DO'?
